ABOUT
Piano Teacher | Piano Accompanist
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Pui-yan Chan received her Bachelor of Arts (Honor) in Music from Hong Kong Baptist University. When she was a Junior at college, she was awarded Li & Fung Scholarship and HKBU Exchange Sponsorship to study at Baylor University (Texas, U.S.) as an exchange student for one year. Upon graduation from HKBU, she furthered studies in the U.S. and received her Master of Music in Piano Performance and Performer’s Certificate from Northern Illinois University. Her primary teachers are Dr. William Goldenberg, Dr. James Williams, and Dr. Pang Cheung.
Awarded Graduate Assistantship during her masters degree, she worked as a piano accompanist for NIU School of Music for two years. She accompanied undergraduate and masters student recitals, juries, convocations, and lessons. Awarded Graduate Teaching Assistantship during her Performer’s Certificate, she taught Group Piano Class (Begin, Intermediate, and Advance) to undergraduate students for one year.
Chan has been teaching piano for over ten years. She has taught children, teenagers, and adults. She is currently teaching online and working as piano accompanist for local high schools. She is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
Besides music, Chan enjoys sports, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
